$500 a month, free gas to drive a billboard

Misha Di Bono zips around town in her Infiniti sport-utility vehicle, breezy and unconcerned about the price of gas.

That's because she gets $500 a month -- plus free gas -- for turning her car into a rolling billboard for Jobing.com, the online recruiting company she works for. Source: http://www.cnn.com

Usain Bolt set new world record in the Men 200 meterBeijing Olympic, 19.30 sec

Usain Bolt 200 meter Record

Usain Bolt 200 meter race
Usain Bolt did it again; Win the 200m in 19.30 breaking M. Johnson world record. A lot of people were sure he could do it, but this time he ran all the way to the line.
I wonder what going through Asafa Powell’s mine, and did Shawn Crawford really think he had a chance against bolt? Whatever happen to S. Crawford buddy Gustin Gatlin (dope scandal) you know they say bird of a feather flock together.
Ok, Usain Bolt just keep eating them yam, banana and dumpling and you will still be number one in the next Olympics to come.

Usain Bolt

Fastest Man

I do not want to say it, but I told you so! that Usain Bolt was the one to bring home the gold and not Asafa Powell.
Now they are taking smack about Usain Bolt beating his chest 80m in the race, claiming that he is mocking the other racers.
Give the guy a break, his it because he is Jamaican and not…
It’s his first Olympic, the guy got excited to win gold for his country at his age (21 years old) and his first Olympic (that he waited four years for) he looked to side and saw that he was winning and got excited early.
Next you know they will be a rule against looking to the sides to know where your opponents are. Will they feel better if he just continue to beat everybody and just walk off the field?
Ok let me rub it in, Usain Bolt the fastest human and don’t forget he is Jamaican! So give me a J….

Jamaica Life

Growing up poor in Jamaica

Growing up as a kid in Jamaica, life wasn’t easy, I remember going to bed after eating a bread and butter sandwich and drinking a cup of tea. Mamma could only drink a cup of tea, because there wasn’t anymore bread left over after her three children had theirs, but she was good knowing we ate.

Now that we are in foreign (or abroad) we might not be rich, yet! But mamma can eat well now.

Jamaica land we love

“Jamaica land we love”, National Anthem. Whoever wrote the national anthem I can’t tell you what they meant by that, but, I can tell you why I love Jamaica’s land...

Living abroad open my eyes to a lot of thing (enlightenment) there is nothing free abroad (USA, Canada, UK…) down to drinking water you got to buy at the store.

At least if you’re poor in Jamaica and living in the rural area, you can eat off the land, providing you do away with items that are not considered necessities.

If God can provide for the birds of the air, or we not more important than the birds? That’s why he allows the land to bear fruits for the people.
You can grow yourself or find growing in the wild; Ackee, breadfruit, banana, coconut tree just to name a few, plant yam, greens…
I know of people that still go to the river to catch fish for dinner.

I remember as a kid I would go out to the bushes to pick a certain leaf or bush to make tea. Saying all that life is not easy in Jamaica, but you can almost survive off the land as far as finding something to eat. In Jamaica there are real communities where everybody knows each other and you can go borrow a cup of sugar from your neighbor.

Jamaica land I love!!!

Jamaica Olympic Team

Watch out world, the Jamaicans are coming

Tyson gay ran a good race last weekend to make a statement to the Jamaicans, but that’s ok. For like the song say; “duppy know who to frighten, if you have a problem talk direct to me.”

I would suggest he bring it to the Olympics in Beijing, for one thing, Asafa Powell might get cold feet when it comes down to a major race, but that country boy from Trelawny ( my home Parish ) name Usain Bolt, isn’t backing down from no race, his attitude is like: “Who the f*@!% want to race”.

So I say, and I quote: “Watch out world, the Jamaicans are coming!!!”

AIDS in Jamaica

They say that Jamaica has the third highest cases of HIV/AIDS behind Haiti and the Dominican Republic, and that AIDS is taking the life of Jamaicans between the ages of 15 and 49.

I remember the first time I heard about AIDS, I was a young boy, (I won’t say what age)
But I was so dawn scared and I wasn’t even having sex. I didn’t even know what it felt like to be laid. I taught that HIV/AIDS was something you could catch like the flu without even having unprotected sex.

Some people do not believe in wearing condoms, because they feel as though it takes away the feeling, even though they know of the risk. It’s just like people know that cigarette smoking will eventually kill you, but they continue to smoke anyway.

Not until people start falling out right away, then people will start waking up and start breaking some of those bad habits.

Drug money flowing to Jamaica

Western Union: Jamaica Money Transfer

If you’re an honest hard working Jamaican living abroad and planning on saving money back home in JA using Western Union or any other means of money transfer, you might need to take some caution. It seems like both the Jamaican and U.S. government see your money as dirty (drug) money and you’ll have to give account as to how you came by it sooner or later.

It’s a shame that hard working Caribbean people living abroad can barely send money home without someone thinking its drug money, but foreign companies can hide money from the U.S. government in the Caribbean.

Below is an article that was written in the Sunday Gleaner by Jenni Campbell in 1998:

Dirty dollars flowing to JA

by using legitimate money transfer services - transferring small amounts which are less likely to arouse suspicion. In addition, local researchers
,
argue that the speed, safety and reliability of remitted money is a definite attraction for criminals who need to send money here.

It. is not clear exactly how much drug money is absorbed by Jamaica's financial system. . The BoJ source said the' Jamaican government, since 1988, has desisted from asking bank depositors to disclose the source of their earnings. Cambio dealers accept large amounts of foreign currency, and there is a growing number of remittance companies which ensure safe delivery of money. Both agencies have limits to the amount of cash they can accept in a single transaction. To cambios, remittance services and eventually the government coffers, the foreign exchange inflow is invaluable.

"Without agencies such as the cambio and remittance, the official banking system could not get its hands into the real foreign exchange industry," the BoJ source said.

In his debate presentation, Mr. Knight announced the establishment of money laundering analysis facility, which he is hoping will "hit criminals where it really hurts - in their bank accounts and property".

Local researchers in economics point to the growing number of. Money-transfer agencies as a clue to the increasing rate of the flow of drug money into the island. Those operating the services agree the foreign exchange inflow is significant, but hard to track.
"Thousands of dollars come into Jamaica daily through remittance services, and possibly millions, but no one really knows exactly how much," said Brian Goldson, managing director of Western Union in Jamaica.

There are 13 remittance companies locally. Western Union, which US statistics claim controls 80 per cent of the international remittance market, currently operates 29 branches locally. Western Union denies the remittance system is targeted by criminals.

"Apart from the fact that we do not ask our clients to state where they get their money, we do not believe drug dealers pass their money through remittance systems since our clients do not usually send funds in large amounts," Mr. Goldson explained.

He said that Western Union customers do not usually send more than US$200 at a time through the system. "Furthermore," he added, "there is a law in the United States which demands that all transaction over US$lO, OOO be declared to the government, and money launderers would not subject themselves to this because they cannot afford to a paper trail."
But Sunday Gleaner checks show criminals have avoided those restrictions by making multiple deals, using different agents.

The problem is not restricted to Jamaica. An official at the Washington-based American Bankers Association (ABA) said that since 1970, when stringent banking regulations were implemented in - the United States, money launderers have turned to non-bank institutions such as cheque cashing firms, money exchanges (cambios) and money transmitters to "rinse" illegally-earned cash.
